In the hills of Valsamoggia, a quiet but urgent revival is underway.
Samodia is a project rooted in care, memory, and the protection of a nearly forgotten wine region. Once a vibrant area for winegrowing in Emilia-Romagna, Valsamoggia has been marginalized in recent decades. Vineyards are disappearing, and with them, the stories, skills, and traditions of generations.
Jacopo and Flavio, longtime friends and co-founders of Samodia, are working to change that.
Together, they are farming three hectares of old vines at the highest point of the valley, using only native grapes and historical methods passed down from great-grandfathers. The project also includes small, precious plots tended by local elders who continue to farm in the traditional way.
The goal is simple: to produce the wine of the valley — a red and a white — honest, local, and made for everyday life. This is wine for the people, by the people, rooted deeply in place and time.
Samodia is not just a wine label. It is a cultural gesture. A way of honouring land, labour, and lineage in one of Italy’s most quietly beautiful regions.
