Fruita Analogica Negre '20

Dido & Jurriaan are a Dutch couple who share many passions but most importantly, they both love wine. They’ve traveled across the world making wine ultimately settling in the Alt-Empordà region of Spain, where through a crowdfunding campaign they bought 10 hectares of planted vines in the natural reserve of Albera. They live amidst their vines where their home and winery are completely self-sufficient using solar power and drawing water from their well. They’re currently farming Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tannat, and Barbera. All of their work in the vineyard is done organically while their wines are made without additives in the cellar. 2018 marked the first vintage making wine from their own grapes focusing on restoring the vineyards, converting them to biodynamics, and grafting to other (white) varieties.

They’ve worked for big industrial companies as well as for small boutique wineries but it was their time with Joan Ramon Escoda that really changed their approach to winemaking and introduced them to the world of natural wine. There they learned that in order to make good natural wine, they learned that the focus needed to be on the vineyard, working as naturally as possible to produce high-quality grapes

For the first release of Fruita Analogica 2020, they made a white and a red wine. Dido & Jurriaan like to make white wine as a red, and a red wine as a white. This means they make a light red wine by only three days skin contact but for the white they let the grapes sit with the skins for over a week. Both wines are made with early harvested organic grapes.

Red Fruita Analògica is the latest addition to Vinyes Tortuga's catalog when one of the old cooperatives in the area took over, Cooperativa Sant Julià, renamed Fruita Analógica. It was built in the sixties and has more than 30 old cement tanks.

90% Cabernet Franc & 10% Xarello farmed organically with some biodynamic
techniques on schist & slate soils. Grapes are hand-harvested, 3-day maceration on the skins, fermented with native yeasts, and pressed into fiberglass tanks and old neutral barrels. Aged for a few short months after harvest on average before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, and zero SO2. 5,000 bottles produced.

Nice and bright high acid fruit - a green pepper note from the Cabernet Franc but with a juiciness and drinkability, as well as a little bit of softness from the barrel ageing; texture and white pepper from the macerated Xarel-lo. Serve lightly chilled.

Cabernet Franc, Xarel-lo
